Eleven minutes after Israel came into existence, the United States became the first nation to recognize its independence.  And because Harry Truman did what was right instead of following the conventional wisdom, we can say today that America is Israel’s oldest and best friend in the world.

What’s fascinating to me is that the U.S. recognized an unnamed state as Israel had not yet chosen it’s name.

Sounds like somethings fishy there… What ’state’ did Truman recognize if it had no name?

“And because Harry Truman did what was right instead of following the conventional wisdom…”

That is quite the opinion-riddled statement, and too bad it’s on a .gov site. It should be much more neutral. Who’s to say Truman didn’t do this for personal gain? I’m not saying he did, only this is highly subjective reading material to come from a .gov website.
