Posted in illustrations with tags Jesus Christ Moses God Bible salvation religion cross on April 9, 2008 by Joe WarnerMoses was a precursor or a type of Christ. He wasn’t the Messiah but his life testified to the coming of the one who would be the savior. Moses led the Israelites out of bondage from the Egyptians. Jesus leads Christians out of bondage to sin. Moses brought the Law down from the mountain. Jesus came from God to fulfill the law. Moses turned water into blood and Jesus turned water into wine.
Moses was unable to reach the promised land, in essence he was not able to take his people ‘all the way’ whereas the true savior, Jesus Christ, gets us to the Father. There are other parallels to be sure and other figures and stories from the bible that point to the ultimate arrival of Jesus Christ.
The the greatest organ donation

Many people seem to not understand the real significance of Jesus dieing for our sins and why that actually works to save us.
I’m going to draw a parallel here to organ donation and donating blood to help those who may lack comprehension of this significance.
Imagine for a moment a person needs an organ donation such as a kidney or bone marrow. You look to their relatives or someone that is a match. This transplant can actually save someone’s life. Explaining this procedure to a 7 year old child that uncle Bob will pass away if he doesn’t get a new kidney would be hard to explain to someone so young.
You would probably oversimplify the explanation by telling the child that you were going to take part of one person and put it into another so they can get better. The importance of what Jesus did is very much the same.
Much the way that those who do not understand the ways of God cannot comprehend why the sacrifice of Jesus is so important. We are contaminated by sin, Jesus Blood is pure and without blemish. By Jesus dieing on the cross he ‘donated’ his son so to die in our place.
By replacing the first Adam with a second, new Adam he joined himself to us so that we could live, making the ultimate sacrifice. A new bond with mankind could now be forged where it was once lost.
Jesus became flesh and the flesh walked among us and it was sacrificed in our place.
This is why we must also sacrifice ourselves to God by living to his will and giving ourselves over to Jesus. If an organ is rejected in the transplant process it ceases to function and dies. If a potential recipient of the gift of Jesus rejects the transplant he/she too will whither and die.
God placed all of these simple clues and examples here on Earth so that we could draw parallels to them and see the fingerprints of God in all of creation. I see them everywhere I look.
Invisible signals
Posted in Commentary, illustrations on May 19, 2008 by Joe WarnerMany atheists will often describe God as the invisible man in the sky and make remarks that you cannot prove the existence of God. By proving God’s existence of course would require the use of current scientific methods.
The question is, of course, how sophisticated is the current scientific methods? Is it too stringent to find God? Is it advanced enough? If we go back in time we can find an era where science was unable to understand or even know about invisible things like radio waves, X rays, and other things we have discovered with time.
Take the cell phone for example. There are many cell phone signals traveling through the air that we cannot see. If we had no knowledge of cellular signals we would not even know we were there. But we have little receptors called cell phones that can send and receive messages.
What if we had a God receptor? Well in fact we do. You see WE are the receptor. We can receive the calls from God. He instilled the capabilities within us to know right from wrong, to have a conscience. To be able to relate the family structure, the desire for marriage and fellowship and the reasoning to know there can be something more.
How can we cultivate that receptor and get an even better signal? Through faith and through the study of God’s word. If we humble ourselves and receive Jesus Christ and study the word we can communicate with God. Not from an audible voice but from and even more intimate relationship that can guide you in every aspect of your life.
You wouldn’t write off the idea of cellular signals because you didn’t have a cell phone. Don’t write off God because he is this invisible unknown.
